New Komatsu PW158-11 excavator
Komatsu Europe announced the launch of new model of wheeled construction equipment on the European markets with the announcement of the PW158-11 excavator. Designed and built in Europe, the new 16 tonne PW158-11 short tail excavator offers all the wide versatility, high lift capacity and innovation of the Komatsu PW-11 line of excavators for European customers. “The all-new Komatsu PW158-11 adds a powerful yet compact lift to the 16t wheeled excavator range,” says Michael Wadsack, Komatsu Europe Product Manager. “Based on customer feedback, we have developed this machine for narrow urban jobsites, with a compact size and lifting capacity normally only available on larger machines in the same class.”
The operating weight of the new Komatsu PW158-11 excavator ranges from 15,080 kg to 18,240 kg. The new short-tail 16-ton machine has a turning radius of only 1900mm, but can lift over 5000 kg above the front or rear without a stabilizer. Its compact size and small turning radius make the excavator ideal for tough jobs on narrow construction sites.
The new Komatsu excavator has taken care of the environment without compromising on performance. Its Komatsu SAA4D107E-3 Stage IV engine develops 90 kW / 122 hp. at 2100 rpm, and a Komatsu Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (KDOC) works in conjunction with the engine and other aftertreatment components to improve efficiency and extend service life. The new Integrated Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system further reduces NOx emissions by 80% with AdBlue.
Electronic engine management (ECM) manages airflow and fuel injection, combustion parameters and post-processing functions to optimize performance along with ultra-low emissions. A new automatic idle shut-off system prevents unnecessary fuel consumption. The system automatically shuts off the engine and activates the parking brake and hydraulic lock after a pre-set idle time limit.
The new viscous fan clutch, which controls the optimal cooling fan speed, also reduces fuel consumption and helps to reduce cab noise.
The versatility and comfort in the new PW158-11 are noteworthy. The Boom Suspension System (ECSS) provides significant comfort when driving over bumps. The operator's seat is equipped with suspended joystick consoles, high quality shock absorption, automatic weight adjustment and pneumatic lumbar support. Joystick Steering (JSS) is available as an option for maximum operator comfort and control with new and easy-to-use function switches.
The redesigned widescreen, high-resolution TFT-LCD color monitor panel with 25 built-in languages provides key vehicle metrics including AdBlue levels, fuel consumption and performance data. The Komatsu Attachment Control interface is also visible on the monitor. In turn, Komatsu's standard KomVision multi-camera system monitors the environment around the excavator, ensuring safe working operations.
To increase its versatility, the PW158-11 can be equipped with an automatic truck-type hitch or a ball-type car hitch for a trailer weighing up to 8 tons, with all the necessary electrical and hydraulic devices. All coupling options as well as Lehnhoff quick-release couplings are available directly from the factory.
After connecting the electrification and hydraulics of the trailer, all its functions can be controlled using the joysticks in the cab.
Serviceability generally affects downtime. Therefore, the excavator is equipped with the exclusive Komatsu EMMS (Equipment Management Monitoring System), which has advanced diagnostic functions, giving the operator and technicians more options for monitoring and troubleshooting. EMMS also continuously monitors all critical systems, proactively maintains and provides troubleshooting assistance to minimize diagnostic and repair time.
The system can be accessed, along with all major machine functions, via the in-cab monitor screen, with almost instant connection.
The AdBlue tank can be refilled from the platform close to ground level, and the refueling and automatic grease pumps have been relocated to make them more accessible. The HCU piping layout has been standardized to be the same on all new PW158, PW148, PW160 and PW180 machines.
In addition, the new Komatsu PW158-11 excavator can be ordered with an optional “automatic lubrication” feature, with normal engine service points, lubrication points and filters centralized and accessible quickly and safely.
